🕯🙏 Candles at Easter, what can we use and when?

April 1, 2022

Holy Week is a period of very high energy and spirituality, since various moments of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are commemorated. Being such a special festive season, there are different beliefs regarding the use of candles, and for this reason, we want to explain what we can use and at what times.

🕯🙏 Candles at Easter, what can we use and when?

The most sacred days in Holy Week are the Easter Triduum, which runs from Holy Thursday to Holy Saturday, it is a period that is usually dedicated to reflection and introspection. That is, we will search within ourselves for everything that does not make us happy or those actions with which we do not feel satisfied to work on purification in the most spiritual field.

These three days are considered days of cleansing of the soul, prior to a new stage that will begin on Resurrection Sunday. This day is a symbol of hope, of renewal and changes, of a new resurgence. It is considered a turning point where we change our attitudes towards life and consciously work on self-forgiveness, in order to achieve the "new me".

On Saturday night there is the tradition of lighting the Paschal candle. It is also said that these days it is better not to light candles to make other requests... What can we do during this Holy Week?

1. Always use white candles.

The petition par excellence during Holy Week is purification. To do this, you can make a novena of white candles so that the light accompanies you throughout the holiday. Start next day 9! You can also light them only during the Easter Triduum (Thursday, Friday and Saturday).

2. Work with purification incense.

We recommend creating an environment conducive to meditation, introspection and forgiveness. Grain incense, due to its natural origin and its powerful aroma, are ideal for this purpose. How to do it? Start your days by burning some grains of liturgical incense, myrrh or copal with a piece of charcoal and spend a few minutes meditating on what you want to change or transmute about yourself.

3. For Holy Saturday...

Saturday is traditionally the day a candle is lit to symbolize hope and the light of life. They are used to lighting once the sun has set and are left to consume throughout the night. You have available the Purification Purpose Candle or the Archangel Michael's Preparation for it.
